Ganirelix Acetate is a daily subcutaneous (under the skin) injection that is prescribed to women undergoing ovarian stimulation during IVF. Ganirelix belongs to a class of medications called "GnRH antagonists” which are used to block the production of Luteinizing Hormone (LH). Because LH is the hormone that triggers ovulation, Ganirelix injections prevent the eggs that are growing in the ovaries from ovulating (releasing) prior to the egg retrieval, called “premature ovulation". Ganirelix is typically started in the middle of ovarian stimulation (day 5 or 6) and taken until the day of the trigger shot.
Ganirelix Acetate comes in a disposable, ready-to-use prefilled syringe that requires no mixing before injection.

Common side effects of Ganirelix Acetate include:
- Pain, bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vaginal bleeding
- Abdominal pain
The needle cover of some versions of Ganirelix Acetate contains natural rubber latex, which may cause allergic reactions in people who are sensitive to latex. Tell your doctor if you have a latex allergy before you start using this medicine. A serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms such as: rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. Some women using Ganirelix Acetate develop ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) during or shortly after treatment. OHSS can be life threatening. Call your doctor right away if you experience any of the symptoms of OHSS including: severe pelvic pain, abdominal pain and bloating, shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, decreased urination, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting.
Ganirelix Acetate should be stored at room temperature (77℉). Temperature variations are acceptable from 59℉ to 86℉. Protect from light.
